Jodie Turner-Smith isn’t down in the dumps after filing for divorce from Joshua Jackson back in October 2023, citing “irreconcilable differences.” In fact, in a new interview with The Times published Sunday, she asserts that realized she's "actually one of the most amazing beings to ever walk the earth!” after giving birth to her three-and-a-half-year-old daughter, Juno, whom she shares with Jackson.

Turner-Smith’s sense of strength doesn’t end with her proclamation that “motherhood makes me more powerful.” In fact, discussing her split from Jackson, whom she secretly married in 2019, she said, “I’m enjoying not having to focus on a man. Men take up a lot of space!”

“I don’t think it’s a failure,” she said of their marriage. “We obviously had such a beautiful moment together. And now it’s time for a new moment for both of us. And how exciting! The bravest thing in the world is to recognize when something’s not working and to make a move, and I always want to set that kind of example for my daughter.”

With the divorce, she said, she’s “taking a step forward into a better life for everybody involved.”

Jackson, meanwhile, has been photographed holding hands with Oscar-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o, who has been very vocal on her Instagram account about her own heartbreak after a “deception” in her previous relationship, as well as her deep and abiding love for the cat, Yoyo, that she obtained in the wake of that split.

Two things that have helped soften the blow of her very public split with Jackson, she said: The internet and cold, hard cash.

“At the end of the day I am not the only person in the world going through a divorce,” she said of keeping mum on her divorce in the media until now. “There are millions of people in the world going through what I’m going through and that’s something that’s amazing about the internet, that sometimes it can offer you community.”

She said that the split came from a moment of introspection and realizing she wasn’t being true to herself. The means to have that realization and act on it helped a lot, a financial foundation from modeling gigs and roles like Queen & Slim, a breakout for Turner-Smith.

“Money talks and allows independence,” she said. “And independence lets you move in a way where you don’t have to be so afraid.”

Representatives for Joshua Jackson did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
